The Beginners/Refresher workshops will cover many of the fundamentals of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga including:
- Energy locks within our bodies
- Gazing/focus points
- Brief introduction to yogic philosophy to provide more context/background to ashtanga vinyasa yoga
- How to build strength and endurance and not collapse in downward dog

- Flow of the practice
Workshops are taught during a weekend
The Beginners/Refresher workshops are taught over 2 weekend days (6 hours in total, 3 hours each day, typically from 2pm to 5pm) and it’s recommended that both days are attended consecutively.
The Saturday workshop will cover many of the beginning poses (sun salutations and standing sequence) of the Primary Series.
The Sunday workshop will introduce some of the seated and finishing postures of the Primary Series sequence giving you a good overview of the key components of the practice.
Both days will cover the energy locks (use of pelvic floor and lower abdomen during practice), breathing and gazing points.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FOLLOWING THE WORKSHOP
Following the Beginners workshop, you will have many of the fundamentals to start to establish a safe and nurturing yoga practice which can help with easing of pains and aches within your body as well as helping you feel more energised, lighter, brighter, fitter and stronger.
You will be able to touch your toes in fairly quick time with regular and committed practice. Any back pain you may be experiencing may start to go away as you learn how to move your body with focused awareness, rhythmic breathing and by using your body’s energy locks (pelvic floor and lower abdomen) to support and strengthen your back.
PICK UP USEFUL TIPS FOR OTHER YOGA STYLES TOO (INCLUDING IF YOU PRACTICE AT HOME WITH A VIDEO)
Even if you don’t decide to attend Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga classes, many of the tips and techniques I will share with you will help you better enjoy other types of yoga. I will teach you proper form for getting into many of the postures as not knowing how to get into postures safely may cause injury further down the line. Yoga doesn’t hurt people, only lack of knowledge does.
GIVE YOURSELF A GIFT OF 15 MINUTES A DAY
We all lead busy lives and it’s not always to find time to go to a yoga class, but this intro workshop will give you enough postures to establish a short home practice, so there are no excuses not to feel light and supple now :). 15 minutes a day is all it takes….start small and you’ll surprise yourself with the progress you make with a regular commitment. Less postures done well is better in the long run.
